Release history and a look at what’s coming next for Marksmith Forge.
Last updatedVersion 1.3.2
Coming soon. Markdown tools come directly to Windows File Explorer, with one menu for opening documents and exporting them in your preferred format.
Windows right-click menu integration
The Microsoft Store edition adds a Marksmith Forge submenu to Windows 11’s first right-click menu for .md and .markdown files. The standalone Windows installer groups the same actions in the classic context menu, accessible through Show more options on Windows 11. First-menu integration is exclusive to the Microsoft Store edition.
- Open in Marksmith Forge, available for a single selected file.
- Export to PDF, DOCX, HTML, LaTeX, or EPUB.
Export directly from File Explorer
- Export individual Markdown files or multiple selected files without opening the editor.
- Keep your current editor document and unsaved changes intact while exports run in the background.
- Use saved export theme and paper-size preferences where supported by the format.
- Include local images and Mermaid diagrams using the existing export engines.
Exports are saved beside the original Markdown file using its filename with the selected extension (.pdf, .docx, .html, .tex, or .epub). An existing export with the same name is replaced.
Clearer notifications and error handling
- Windows export notifications use the Marksmith Forge name and logo.
- Failed exports report issues such as missing source files or unwritable destinations.
- Batch exports continue processing the remaining files if one fails.
- Missing images and invalid Mermaid diagrams produce export notices and placeholders.
- Added native shell-extension tests and expanded coverage for context-menu installation, notifications, all five background export formats, and error handling.
